Why We Exist
Proud Family Stays began with a moment that exposed a gap that no travel platform was addressing. While planning a multi-family trip, a suggested destination was quietly ruled out with the words, “We can’t go there. They don’t like the gays.”
LGBTQ+ families don’t just plan trips; they research whether their family will be safe, respected, and welcomed. Proud Family Stays was created to build what was missing: a dedicated, trust-based space where LGBTQ+ families can find properties that are thoughtfully prepared to receive them, and where welcome is not assumed, but intentionally offered.
How we curate properties
Every property included in Proud Family Stays is selected through careful review and direct conversation with hotel leadership.
We assess how hospitality is practiced in real terms — not only through stated policies, but through the everyday experience families encounter when they arrive.
Selection is based on a consistent set of criteria:
- Leadership alignment in welcoming LGBTQ+ families
- Operational readiness for those traveling with children
- Staff interactions that reflect ease, respect, and awareness
- Environments where families can move comfortably and naturally
- And a culture of care that extends meaningfully beyond marketing language
In many cases, this includes discussing real guest scenarios to understand how families are received in practice.
The intention is not to include more places, but to define a collection where families can arrive knowing their welcome has already been considered.
